Rooibos Tea (pronounced roy-boss) is made from the leaves of Aspalathus linearis, a plant native only to the Cederberg region of South Africa. Meaning ‘red bush’ in Afrikaans, rooibos has a naturally sweet, smooth, slightly woody flavour with a beautiful amber colour. Completely caffeine-free, it can be enjoyed at any time of day — including just before bed.
Health Benefits
- Completely caffeine-free — unlike black or green tea, making it safe for children, pregnant women and caffeine-sensitive individuals
- Contains aspalathin and nothofagin — antioxidants unique to rooibos with anti-diabetic and anti-inflammatory properties
- Rich in quercetin and luteolin, plant flavonoids linked to heart health
- Traditionally used to relieve colic in infants and soothe digestive discomfort
- High in minerals including calcium, manganese and fluoride
Brewing Guide
- Use 1-2 teaspoons per cup in freshly boiled water
- Steep for 5-7 minutes — rooibos gets sweeter, not more bitter, the longer you steep
- Delicious with oat milk and honey as a caffeine-free latte alternative
- Makes a beautiful iced tea with orange slices and mint
